Why does ALEX ask so many questions?

Edited

The questions in the Profile section of ALEX are all critical in ensuring folks get accurate estimates and recommendations.

Here's a breakdown of where those questions come into play:

  • Cost & Risk Prediction: includes questions around Age, Sex at Birth, Zip Code, Rx, Utilization & Pregnancy. We use these questions to estimate cost & risk based on “people like you.”

  • Preference adjustment: includes questions around Risk Aversion, & Capacity to Pay. These identify risk preferences—they tell us how much you should pay to reduce your risk.

  • Tax adjustment: includes the question about Income. We use income to estimate tax benefits from premiums and use of HSAs & FSAs.

As these questions are all vital to how ALEX makes recommendations for individual users, they are a required part of the ALEX conversation.
