How does ALEX make a recommendation?

Edited

ALEX helps employees find the best plan by analyzing historical data to automatically sort folks into groups that we call "People Like You" to predict their medical costs and risk.

Once we link the user up to folks with similar tendencies—such as willingness to spend or healthcare usage—here's how we process all that information into a recommendation:

  • First, we use the information provided by the employee in the initial survey questions to identify People Like You who have similar healthcare needs and usage

  • Next, we use the healthcare patterns of People Like You to estimate an employee's Out-Of-Pocket (OOP) costs in a typical year as well as their risk of high OOP spending

  • Finally, we combine this information with the plan premiums and the employees financial preferences in order to score and rank the plan options they'll find on their results page
